General Camp Info

GENERAL INFORMATION

Vermont Location

ELITEAM Conditioning Camps are held on the Green Mountain Valley School campus in Waitsfield, VT. Campers and staff stay in the dorms. We utilize the academy’s gym, soccer fields, and ropes courses. We also use the Mad River Valley’s extensive trails, pastures, and mountains for training and activities.

Park City Location

ELITEAM will be base out of the U.S. Ski Team's Center of Excellence (COE) facility. We will use the Center's gym, testing equipment, workout rooms, kitchen and classroom. We will also use the many recreational fields and natural trails in and around Park City. All camps will be housed at the National Ability Center's dormitory.

Meals

ELITEAM provides all meals, as well as fruit and energy bars for snacks each day.

Camper/Staff Ratio

Approximately 45 campers attend each session. A ratio of 5:1 ensures personal attention for every camper.

Staff

Doug Lewis, a two-time U.S. Olympian and World Championship Medalist, is the creator of ELITEAM camps. Doug has been extensively involved in World Class athletics as a ski racer, coach, broadcaster, motivational speaker and spokesperson for over 30 years. Since retiring from the U.S. Ski Team, Doug has dedicated himself to passing on his winning knowledge of sports and competition to young athletes.

Kelley Lewis, ELITEAM's Director, is a former World Class ski racer and the force that keeps ELITEAM organized and moving forward. She structures ELITEAM with the goal of providing an environment that both educates and inspires.

Kelley and Doug consider the coaching staff to be a critical part of ELITEAM’s success. The staff is hand- picked for their experience, education, and positive energy. Over 80% have been ELITEAM campers themselves. Every coach has a passion for athletics and a desire to help each athlete achieve their best. Every staff member believes in the ELITEAM philosophy of the "complete" athlete, and is Red Cross CPR certified. In addition to the coaches, ELITEAM brings back exceptional campers from years past to work as counselors. They help motivate and inspire the young athletes, and provide a high standard and positive example for all campers.

Who Attends

ELITEAM is for high-energy kids who love outdoor activities and have goals of pursuing a specific sport. Many of the campers who attend are young ski racers, but competitive swimmers, golfers, hockey players and other athletes also attend. Any young athlete is welcome. ELITEAM is ideal for kids who are active, outdoorsy and enjoy a challenge!

ELITEAM's Program

ELITEAM’s program is quite strenuous. As such, it is important that your child arrive healthy and well rested. Additionally, we do not recommend ELITEAM as your child’s first overnight camp. The physically demanding nature of the camps, combined with the mental stress of being away from home for the first time can often be too much. Please consider this carefully. It is important to us that your child have a positive experience at ELITEAM.

Respect and Responsibility

Respect and responsibility are just as important as any physical activity that we do. Incidents of disrespect towards another camper, the staff, or the campus will not be tolerated. ELITEAM enforces a totally smoke-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free environment.

Mountain Biking (For VT & Park City World Cup sessions only)

Mountain biking is an important part of ELITEAM’s World Cup sessions. We will be biking on rugged trails as well as through gates. Each camper must bring his/her own mountain bike (no road or hybrids) and bike helmet. Mountain biking in Vermont, and particularly in this area, can be quite challenging. If your child does not spend much time on his/her mountain bike, we recommend that you have him/her go out for several practice rides before camp begins. Your child should be able to ride comfortably on mountain bike trails, and should know how to switch gears while riding. Please also make sure that your child has a water bottle cage on his/her bike frame. (We regret that Eliteam is unable to offer rentals. Please plan to bring a bike with you.)

Communication Policy

Cell phones are not permitted at camp. In addition, ELITEAM does not allow campers to make or receive phone calls during the week. However, parents are welcome to call Kelley, Doug or your child's dorm parent at any time for an update, as well as send your child an email on our "Mail Day". Many parents also enjoy following us on the web with our daily blog and photo gallery updates.

Electronics

We don't need electronics at camp! Computers, iTouch/iPods, stereos, etc are not permitted at camp. Your kids can "unplug" for a few days and have fun the old-fashioned way!
