Another Successful ELITEAM Olympics
Although bad weather threatened to make this our first rainy Olympics EVER, clear skies prevailed and parents and friends were treated to another fun, exciting ELITEAM Olympics. The field events were as frenetic and hilarious as always. The highlight again being the Mad River Rocket pulls. As always I am blown away at the agility and quickness of those competitors that run the dryland slalom and Berg Und Tal. And I was really impressed at the determination of those athletes that had to sprint the muddy, nasty, slippery hill climb of the Obstacle course.
For the first time ever, we highlighted the Dangle Duo as our high element. Our athletes, Lucy and Win, did not disappoint. It was really fun to watch them work together to reach the top rung, 35 feet in the air. Lucy scared the crowd just a bit with a couple well-timed slips, but Win was there to help her.
The Dance finished off this year’s ELITEAM in style. My favorite moves this year were the CPR and Meat Grinder. I never remember which team wins, but Congrats to all of the athletes for a great competition, but even better week of pushing their limits.
I cannot thank my staff enough. They are the real heroes during ELITEAM’s 16 days of fun, work, workouts, teaching, cleaning & motivating. What I am most proud of is that 80 percent of the staff went to ELITEAM as campers!
Some of my favorite memories of ELITEAM 08:
-Intense Sand-pit Slalom courses, highlighted by the appearance of Olympian Jimmy Cochran for the two World Cup sessions. What an experience watching Jimmy run the course to perfection and (literally) dust the group. Great to see him cheer everyone on and then autograph something for every camper.
-Working through the rain. Even though there was a ton of wet weather this summer, both the staff and campers rallied to make the best of it. How great was biking in a complete downpour during World Cup 1? How exciting was driving home from Sandpits in a hail storm?! Congratulations to the entire crew for persevering.
-The impromptu Talent shows, especially World Cup 2’s extravaganza. From plays to readings to juggling to singing – we have some talented Eliteamers.
-The way every camper pushed their limits to the edge. It is so amazing to watch as one by one the campers take themselves further than even we think possible. From the ropes course, to the agility training, to the circuits, each camper put in 100% effort.
Believe it or not we are working on ELITEAM 09 already and the February 1 registration date will be here before you know it. Mark your calendars.
Thank you for joining us this Summer! Have a GREAT winter ski racing season and keep working on your physical fitness, focus, and healthy eating.
