ABOUT ANDREW

Name: Andrew Whiteford
Nickname: Dub
Education: Longmeadow High School, Class of 2001. University of Vermont, Business Major.
Years at Eliteam: 11 (2 camper, 2 counselor, 7 coach)
Skiing background: Interclub and tri state racing in Elementary and Middle School out of Blandford and Berkshire East, MA. Longmeadow High School racing team during high school. Freeskiing through high school and college with a few competitions and filmed with Meathead Films.
Other sports and activities I like: I do a lot of mountain biking and hiking/trail running in the summer. Camping, swimming, rock climbing, climbing trees- it's all good!
Coaching Experience: I've coached at Eliteam for the past seven years.
Favorite Eliteam memories as a camper: Van assisted mountain bike rides where we'd start off by chowing on rasberries at Doug and Kelley's house followed by what seemed like hours of downhill mountain biking.
Favorite Eliteam moments as a Coach: I love setting up the indoor obstacle courses and watching the campers absolutely tear it up. I'd say the times when everyone is putting in their full effort and working together- on a bike ride, hike, or workout- that is the most rewarding.
Favorite Eliteam workout: Leg routine on the hill! Backwards tuck walk, more specifically!
Favorite Eliteam Dance move: This is a tough one...I think the understated elegance of the Shopping Cart really makes it shine. But then again, the Sprinkler is really fun...rather advanced, though...
Unusual Eliteam talent: I'm very good at unplugging toilets.
Interesting Eliteam story: I once lay completely still, face down in the grass, for 45 straight minutes during an intense "Sit Still and Stay Quiet Contest" with some campers. Yes, I was victorious.
When I am not coaching at ELITEAM: I currently live in Jackson Hole, Wy. I work at a hotel and spend most of my free time on the mountain skiing and filming with my friends. I ski about 130 days a season, with most of those being sweet powder days!
Personal Goals for '08: I'm going to be competing in the U.S Freeskiing Series this winter. I hope to finish consistently and improve my level of skiing while staying healthy and uninjured. I'd also like to do some more ski mountaineering in the spring and learn how to whitewater kayak this summer.
