What is the Eliteam Olympics? The Eliteam Olympics is a fun competition on the last day of camp. The campers are divided into 6 teams. Each team member will compete in one of the events.
Why do you recommend that Eliteam not be a child’s first overnight camp experience? Eliteam’s program is quite strenuous. The physical exhaustion combined with the stress of being away from home for the first time can be overwhelming for some campers. Although many can make it through the day, they often have a difficult time in the evenings. This is especially true for the younger campers (ex. 8-10 yr olds). On the other hand, if your child is older, and has not yet been to overnight camp, but is used to being away from family and the comforts of home for a week at a time, he/she should be ok. We suggest that you give us a call to discuss your child’s situation if you are unsure. It is important to us that your child has a positive experience their first time at camp.
What is a typical day at Eliteam? We like to keep the kids busy all day long! The days are very structured, with little free time.

How do you handle the situation if a child is homesick? We will do our best to comfort your child, and provide him/her with a distraction. We suggest that they call home only once a day. In general, we have found that more time spent on the phone with parents makes things worse for kids who are homesick. Should it become necessary, you and your child’s dorm parent can discuss a strategy for handling the remainder of your child’s time at camp. You are welcome to send your child notes via email. (Email notes to: info@eliteam.com)
What is your procedure for medical emergencies? Should your child require a visit to the doctor or the emergency room, every effort will be made to contact you prior to seeking treatment.
What are the rooms like? Two dorm buildings are used on the GMVS campus… one for boys, one for girls. Each room has 2-4 beds, a desk area, and armoires that can be used for clothing storage. There are 1-2 bathroom/shower areas per floor that are shared by the campers.
What is on the packing list? (click here for printable version-new window will open)
Can my child call home during camp? The best time for your child to call home is right before or after dinner (5:30pm) or after our last scheduled activity for the day (8:00pm). No calls will be permitted after 8:45pm unless for an emergency. Please help us by keeping your phone calls short (2-3 minutes), as there is only one phone per dorm. Please also teach your child to call home using a calling card number, or by calling collect. Sending written instructions with them may help. Cell phones are not recommended. Please also note that you are welcome to send your child notes during the week via email. (Email notes to: info@eliteam.com)
Can my child bring a cell phone? We discourage use of cell phones, but your child may bring one if they leave it with their dorm parent. Your child is welcome to call home during approved phone hours. The phone, however, must be returned to the dorm parent following each conversation.
How can I reach the staff or campers during the week?
Eliteam message center: 802-496-3278 (checked twice a day)
Kelley Lewis/Eliteam cell: 802-793-5055

What is the mountain biking like? Mountain biking in Vermont, and particularly in this area, can be quite challenging. For that reason, only the kids attending the World Cup session will mountain bike. If your child does not spend much time on his/her mountain bike, we highly recommend that you have him/her spend some time practicing on trails before camp begins. Your child should be able to ride comfortably on mountain bike trails, and should know how to switch gears while riding and how to use the front and back brakes. Please also make sure that your child has a water bottle cage on his/her bike frame and that their bike has had a tune up prior to camp. We have extra bike supplies and tools on hand, but attaching a spare tube underneath their seat would be helpful. Campers are required to wear helmets at all times when riding. Lastly, don’t forget to pack a bike lock.
How much riding will they do? There is one big day of mountain biking during camp. The entire camp will take a van ride into Burlington to spend most of the day at the Catamount Biking Center, which offers a variety of mountain biking terrain and trails, from expert to beginner. For expert riders, there will be one or two other opportunities during the week for an optional ride locally in the Mad River Valley. Bikes may also be used during the week to get around campus.
